To my newcomer’s eye, the atmosphere on the KV Svalbard felt more like a family than of a military ship. Maybe that’s just the Norwegian way, or maybe it suits a crew where the age range is so great, where young recruits on national service are guided by experienced officers older than their own parents. Watching the enlisted crew, many on their first time away from home, -yet alone the Arctic, gave this voyage a sense of wonder and discovery.
